Winston Churchill’s wise words have become a well-worn adage for creatives.
We know we shouldn’t overthink things — that comparing ourselves to others or holding ourselves to impossibly high standards is a sure way to get ~nothing~ done, and resent the whole process.
And yet… we’ve all (mostly) fallen victim to it: tweaking, editing, and agonising over every tiny detail until the deadline passes, or worse — not starting at all. Perfectionism feels like a safety net, but it’s really a trap — keeping us stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and endless revisions.
As much as I know I shouldn’t fall into it, sometimes I still walk right into that trap door. And when I see quotes like ‘Progress over perfectionism’ pop up aesthetically in my Instagram feed, it tends to remind me that I’m doing it wrong — which then fuels more perfectionism (the irony is not lost on me).
