This discussion is an important one - I came across a creator on TikTok (@Vanessadomslife) who talks about creating art as adults. We think that it should be like when we were kids - that we just feel inspired and then create. Instead, she urges people to think about carving out time to create, understanding that we won't get very far if we rely on inspiration alone.
Agreed, Jane! Carving out that time when life is so busy is so important. I actually wrote another piece exploring the consistency / creativity topic-sharing here in case you’re interested…
I loved reading this & totally resonate with so much of your experience. I have to be really mindful of what I engage with in general, but especially at some points in my menstrual cycle where I’m way more sensitive to external information. It’s a real commitment to creating as our true selves, isn’t it x
So glad it resonated with you Sophie ❤️ that’s such a good point re cycle sensitivity, too! Mindfulness is so key, and so is discipline I’ve found when it comes to *really* switching off.
I love this, it definitely resonates. I'm trying to build practices around journaling, especially free form journaling. More time with pen and paper rather than digital and just see what flows.
Yesss pen to paper really hits different. Especially when it’s free form writing! Liz Gilbert has a beautiful substack all around a daily journalling practice if you want to check that out ❤️

Oh I will, thanks!
Love this creating vs. consuming. Thanks for sharing this hits deep within.
Thanks for your lovely comment! I definitely think this is a topic that resonates with a lot of creatives at the moment!
